China executes serial killer who targeted females dressed in red and killed 11
Gao Chengyong, a 54-year-old Chinese serial killer who raped and murdered at least 11 women has been executed.
Chengyong, who notoriously targeted females dressed in red, committed the crimes between 1988 and 2002.
He was famously known as ‘China’s Jack the Ripper’. 10 women and a girl fell victims to his serial killings.
Chengyong often killed his victims by slitting their throats. Reports say he also mutilated the bodies of his victims, including an 8-year-old girl.
The notorious killer’s arrest in 2016 was unprecedented. Police had arrested his uncle over a minor crime and DNA revealed that his identity was close to that of a wanted killer.
Police closed in on Chengyong, a store owner, and gathered his DNA to confirm their suspicion. Chengyong confessed to the crimes and was sentenced to death in March 2018.
“The suspect has a sexual perversion and hates women,” state media quoted the police as saying at the time.
“He’s reclusive and unsociable, but patient.”
Chengyong’s wife and family were reportedly oblivious of his criminal activities until his arrest.
