Chief Imam gunned down in presence of two sons in Edo
The Chief Imam of Egbeta mosque in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State was on Saturday shot dead by unknown assassins.
The cleric, identified as Mallam Saka Afolabi, was reportedly assassinated in the presence of his two sons.
They were on their way to the mosque when the assailants, numbering three, crossed them and shot him dead at close range.
One of Afolabi’s sons, Mutiu, said the assailants trailed the deceased on a motorcycle.
“We were going to the mosque when three boys came on a motorcycle. One said, ‘This is the man.’ They pointed a flashlight at our faces and shot my father,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Nkombe, confirmed the incident on Monday.
Nkombe said that investigation had commenced to track down the killers.
