Chibok girls worst victims of Buhari’s kitchen disaster
Most of the people defending President Muhammadu Buhari for embarrassing our First Lady Aisha in full glare of the Free World are either in the “employ” of the First Man or are themselves sexist.
In Germany, the leader of Africa’s most populous black nation stood before the most powerful woman in Europe and banished his wife to the kitchen and bedroom.
And why? Because she offered her opinion on the way Nigeria is governed.
“Can’t the president joke again?” No, it’s not funny. It’s dangerous, and not just because Aisha.
Buhari’s gaffe came two days after we marked the International Day of the Girl and barely 24 hours after Boko Haram released 21 of the over 200 schoolgirls they abducted from Chibok, Borno.
Over the course of the next decade, at least, Nigeria will spend millions of naira to educate the girls again.
And After all is said and done, they must fall back to their “actual” place in life: the kitchen, the parlour and the “other room” of their respective husbands. They are no more than cooks and objects of sexual gratification for the man to whom they are married.
That’s what Boko Haram thinks of them. That’s why one of them came back with a baby. That’s why Amina Ali Nkeki, who regained freedom in May, returned home a nursing mother.
Look up “misogyny” and “sexism”. That’s it. These girls are second class citizens, who no matter how enlightened, must keep mute when men speak.
There’s no defending what the president said. Buhari should tender an apology to his wife, the girls and the rest of us when he returns to Abuja.
