Champions League Final: 4 things to expect from Juventus, Real Madrid clash

The Champions League final showdown between Juventus and Real Madrid is set to kick off in a few hours.

The Italian giants and their Spanish counterparts go head-to-head with both sides chasing history in a potentially explosive 2017 UEFA Champions League final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Real Madrid are seeking to win their 12th European crown, and a victory will also see them become the first club in the history of the competition to win the title back-to-back since it was christened the UEFA Champions League in 1992.

Juventus are seeking to win only their third Champions League crown.

Here are some of the major talking points that could occur in the clash:

1. Controversial decision from referee Felix Brych

Felix Brych could make a controversial decision.

The German referee in charge of the match, though experienced, might be overwhelmed by the emotions that will be displayed by some of the players – Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos in particular.

Brych could be forced to make a controversial and significant call that would determine the outcome of the match.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo brilliance and theatrics

Cristiano Ronaldo could put on a show of theatrics

CR7 is one to never shy from seeking the spotlight when big occasions arise.

Chasing a World Player of the Year award that would put him on par with rival Lionel Messi, Ronaldo will be desperate to shine on the big stage to put him in good stead for the coveted gong.

He could very well show some theatrics during the game while in pursuit of that glory.

3. Gigi Buffon masterclass

Gigi Buffon masterclass can be expected.

Many of the reactions that have preceded the final is many neutrals wanting one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of football to win the Champions League trophy.

Expect Buffon to put in some masterclass saves – as usual.

4. Sergio Ramos card

Sergio could get sent off if he doesn’t keep his head calm.

Sergio is a player who rises to big occasions. The last two Champions League trophies won by Madrid have had some Sergio show-stopping moments on them.

The player is also never afraid to get stuck-in, and that mostly results to him getting carded.

While every neutral would hope he keeps his head calm to make for an even, well-contested game, there sure wouldn’t be any surprise if he gets sent off in today’s final.

Regardless of whatever happens in today’s match, here’s wishing for a great, memorable final.
