CAC pastor, church members trade blows over God’s money
A routine service at a church in the Yaba area of Lagos had an unusual ending on Sunday.
Proceedings had gone on as usual at the Christ Apostolic Church until a member left his seat to take charge of a table placed on the altar.
The fracas that followed effectively put paid to the “worship” service as the worship venue turned into a wrestling ring.
While it’s unclear exactly what triggered the fracas during the service, the warring members revealed later that it had something to do with money and its appropriation.
Local station TVC captured the entire scene, an indication that there was a premonition of the incident.

The presiding pastor of the church was physically grabbed and thrown out as the music stopped and the pandemonium attained an unholy crescendo.
“He has been giving the church a problem. He has been causing chaos in the church…”, a member, all sweaty from the fracas, told the TV reporter.
He also accused the pastor of raising money without remitting same to the church.
Another member, seemingly an elder, explained that the fracas was a result of a misunderstanding about how much is really due to the pastor in salaries.
But Pastor Michael Oni said he only asked for the church’s accounts “which they failed to render”.
He added that he also asked that all expenditures be routed through him for vetting.
