Caught in the act! Isah used to sell 2nd hand shoes in Aba, Abia state

Everyday is for the thief, one day is for the owner. That’s exactly what has played out between the Nigeria Police and Mohammed Isah.

Isah, 18, who is already in police custody was apprehended, last week, as he tried to play a smart one on the police, the seventh time.

“He rushed to this office to say that one of our patrol teams, Metro Patrol Team 7, arrested him and that they extorted from him a sum of about N150,000,” Lagos Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni told Channels Television.

That same story, the figure slightly differing, had worked effectively the previous six times.

“With a view to getting to the bottom of that matter, we had summoned members of the patrol team who swore and broke down that they’ve never seen this boy before,” Owoseni added.

It then dawned on one of the officers at the station that a similar incidence was reported in his former command in Anambra. A picture of Isah was forwarded to Anambra and it was confirmed that he was the same person.

Lagos CP, Fatai Owoseni, could have been Isah’s 7th prey.

Isah has since confessed to the crime.

“This year I go Akure, talk lie. This year I come here, talk lie. For here, God e don catch me,” he said.

Isah who claimed to hail from Katsina said he used to trade in 2nd hand shoes in Aba before business went bad.

But then he has already ruined business for many police officers notable amongst which are the Ondo six.

Inspector Ogunborode Oluremi (team leader), Sgt. Osho Akindayo, Cpl. Adesina Olarewaju, Cpl. Simon Osademe, Cpl. Gabriel Adejoro and Cpl. Oluwamunewa Tope were the subject of Isah’s accusation back in July 2015.

“We were dismissed after two days of Orderly Room Trial. The Commissioner of Police, then in Ondo State, CP Isaac Eke, approved the dismissal of five of my colleagues, while AIG Helen Adeyemi of Zone 11 approved my dismissal as an Inspector,’’ Oluremi told NAN in Lagos.

Oluremi, 2nd right, and his team are the biggest victims of Isah's pranks.
Inspector Oluremi, 2nd right, and his team are the biggest victims of Isah’s pranks.

He added that they were also detained in cell for four months.

Each of the other five times, the accused policemen were punished and Isah was refunded whatever amount he claimed to have been extorted from him.,

As Isah’s confession seems to have proven their innocence, Oluremi and his team have appealed to the Inspector General of Police, to reinstate them.

“Many police officers have been punished, six were dismissed in the Ondo State Command with his false allegations. The suspect has confessed to the crime and exonerated the officers who have been so punished or dismissed,’’ Owoseni said.

He, therefore, assure that he would take up the case of the Ondo six with the appropriate authority.

However, some are already questioning the diligence of the investigators in each of the six previous cases..
