Buhari walks out on weeping Chibok parents

President Muhammadu Buhari walked out on 108 parents whose teenage daughters Boko Haram terrorists kidnapped on April 14, 2014.

That’s what sources inside the closed-door meeting with Buhari are saying.

But Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) leader Obiageli Ezekwesili said that wasn’t the case. She said the parents did not “feel” Buhari.

Buhari, NewsroomNG gathered, had initially rejected the idea of meeting with the devastated parents. His aides allegedly said he wasn’t given prior notice of the meeting.

After the parents, some of them in tears, stormed Aso Rock on Thursday; they insisted they’ll go nowhere till they see the president.

Before Buhari showed up, women affairs minister Aisha Alhassan had reportedly suggested the Chibok schoolgirls were not Buhari’s responsibility.

“She said after all they were not kidnapped during Buhari’s time,” a source told NewsroomNG.

The source added:

The comment did not only anger the parents and the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group. It actually added to their pain. How can that kind of statement come from the lips of a woman?

The BBOG group would later lash out at Alhassan’s “lack of empathy” and “condescending” attitude.

Buhari says he’s not sure the girls are alive. A journalist with “credible” Boko Haram contacts says the girls are alive and well.

Esther, a Chibok parent at the Thursday meeting with Buhari said she doesn’t care the state her daughters are in; she just wants them back.

Buhari had said he won’t declare victory over Boko Haram until the girls are rescued alive. But the Nigerian military has gone ahead to claim that victory.
