Buhari bows to pressure, to visit troubled areas in Benue, Yobe, and Zamfara

Following an earlier report that Buhari will visit troubled Mabilla Plateau in Taraba state before departing for Ghana later today, the president’s camp has also revealed he will visit other troubled areas in states such as Benue, Yobe, and Zamfara.

Buhari had come under heavy criticism for his reluctance to visit some of the areas that recently witnessed violence in the country.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, made the new development known to newsmen on Monday (today).

Buhari, according to Adesina, would begin his journey with a trip to Taraba State on Monday and he would subsequently visit Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers states.

The presidential spokesman, however, did not disclose when the trips to the four states will take place.

The statement read, “In view of recent terrorist attacks, criminal activities and communal clashes in some states leading to tragic loss of lives and kidnapping of 110 schoolgirls, President Muhammadu Buhari immediately tasked the Armed Forces and other security agencies to compile comprehensive reports on the various incidents.

“Having received and studied the reports, the President has decided to undertake an on-the-spot assessment of the various occurrences and to meet and console the communities affected.
