BREAKING: Former President Shehu Shagari dies aged 93
Former President of Nigeria, Shehu Shagari has died aged 93.
Shagari died Friday evening at the National hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.
The announcement was made by members of his family.
“I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja,” his grandson, Bello Shagari said.

Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari became the first and only President of Nigeria’s second Republic in 1979 when he took over from then Military Head of State Olusegun Obasanjo.
His government was later overthrown by then General Muhammadu Buhari in 1983.
