Here’s why Chelsea ended Jose Mourinho’s second spell
“Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted ways by mutual content.”
Short and Crisp, that tweet confirmed the end of Mourinho’s second spell at the club just months after he signed a new contract that was to elapse in another four years.
It doesn’t come as a surprise though.
Under Mourinho this term, the current Premier League champions have looked nothing like champions. Having garnered only 15 points from 16 games, they occupy the 16 spot on the league table – one spot and one point away from relegation.
The same Chelsea, only seven months ago, finished eight points clear last season.
So many saw this coming. Chelsea’s nine losses so far season is the same as the total number of losses they recorded in the last two seasons.
Mourinho, Chelsea’s most successful manager, began his first spell as coach of the team in the 2004/2005 season. He was sacked 6 games into the 2006/2007 season. But he had won two premier league titles.
He returned in 2013/2014 and won the league again in the 2014/2015 season.
He also won the FA Cup, in 2007, and the League Cup three times, 2005, 2007, and 2015.
Chelsea are yet to name a successor. But Pep Guardiola, Guus Hiddink, Brendan Rodgers and Juande Ramos are all being touted as possible successors.
