Ben Bruce vs UNILAG: Student fires back at “annoying” Nigerian critics

“Candidates are hereby advised to desist from seeking information and any other form of assistance in relation to admissions from sites other than the university’s official website,’’ the deputy registrar said.
UNILAG student: The food is not the bone of contention here. It’s the aspect of morally dehumanizing a set of people that looked up to you.

Sorry guys. Ben Bruce versus University of Lagos (UNILAG) Mass Communication students has refused to go away.

The students said the Nigerian senator gave them a “humiliating” treatment during his 60th birthday and book launch.

Ben Bruce apologised.

Nigerians reacted to the entire thing by calling the students all sort of names. They labelled the students “gluttons, thugs, lazy” and what not.

Abidemi Adesokan, the student who initially wrote Ben Bruce over the birthday “humiliation”, is back with a harsh response to the Nigerian critics.

Adesokan spoke with NewsroomNG on Sunday night. Here is the response:

My course mates are of the opinion that we shouldn’t respond to anything.

But it’s so obvious that these people are incapable of reasoning and they are trying to make sense out of what is obviously above their thinking capacity.

The fact that they can’t see past the comment on the food is really annoying.

The food is not the bone of contention here. It’s the aspect of morally dehumanising a set of people that looked up to you.

If Senator Ben Bruce wanted to throw a party solely for his “friends”, he should have done that simply. Not to invite students to “celebrate with him” only to segregate them.

The point is he fights for equality. If this were another folk, no one would complain, but it’s Ben Bruce who appears to advocate for “equality”.

No one throws a birthday party “strictly by invite” and still has VIP and regular sections.

A birthday party and you treat some like lords while others are treated like gate-crashers…

Well for those who made those comments, I’ll say it’s all about one’s self-perception. If you think you don’t deserve to be treated in the most humanely way possible, that’s good. But don’t drag other people into your low evaluation of yourself.
