Authorities demolish China hospital “with people inside”

Director of the hospital’s radiology department, Liu Chunguang told Xinhua news agency he was examining a patient when the demolition took place.

“A gaping hole appeared, the patient was half-scared to death, and ran out,” he said.

The Number Four Hospital of Zhengzhou University in Henan province, China, was partially pulled down on Thursday following a land dispute.

According to hospital staff, equipment worth over $600,000 was damaged while six bodies from the morgue were buried in the rubble.

In a statement, local Huiji disctrict government said the hospital’s CT room and morgue were on land designated for a road expansion project.

It added that the hospital had been asked to dismantle the rooms themselves several times and that it was evacuated before the demolition.

There were on casualties, the statement added.

Hospital officials however insists that three doctors and a patient were in the building when it was being demolished.

They added that some hospital workers were injured when they tried to stop the demolition..
