‘Yahoo’ son attempts to use mother for ritual, smashes her head with plank, pressing iron
Lagos police have arrested Taiwo Akinola, a suspected ‘yahoo boy’, after he allegedly attempted to kill his mother for ritual purposes on Sunday.
He was said to have left his mother, Alice Akinola, within an inch of death by clubbing her with plank and pressing iron at their residence at Raji Ajanaku street, Alaja Road, Ayobo area of the state.
Police say Taiwo, 29, deceitfully sent Alice’s 14-year-old grandchild on errand so as to be able to perpetuate the crime.
The alleged Aiye confraternity cultist went to his mother’s provision store in front of their apartment and told her to meet him inside the house for an important discussion. He sent his nephew, Faruk, to go buy him a white handkerchief and a stick of cigarette.
He allegedly attacked Alice as soon as she stepped into their flat, smashing her head with a plank, pressing iron and a UPS charger.
Luckily for Alice, little Faruk returned just in time to see his grandma in a pool of blood, gasping for breath.
The boy raised an alarm which attracted neighbours to the scene. Taiwo was promptly arrested.
Police say Alice has been taken to an undisclosed hospital and is battling for survival.
Taiwo, who allegedly wanted to boost his cyber fraud business (yahoo) to the ritual level (yahoo plus), told the police that he was asked to kill his mother in order to have more money.
Items such as two calabashes (with one containing human skull and the other, a mixture of dark concoction); a bottle containing oil with the inscription ‘back to sender’; a white handkerchief; and a plank with nails, were found in his room.
More investigation is ongoing according to the police.
