Police “flee” after tear-gassing YabaTech students, shoot sporadically
NewsroomNG can confirm that a group of policemen tear-gassed a mob of students at the Yaba College of Technology on Wednesday.
The students have been protesting the circumstances that lead to the death, Wednesday morning, of final year colleague Charity Dazan.
The assault on students followed an address by the polytechnic’s rector, Mrs Kudi Ibiyeye-Ladipo.
Several gunshots were also fire into the air moments aft the teargassing. We heard a gun shot as our reporter called in to update us of this development.

Students were also sharing ideas on how to protect themselves from the foul gas.
“Soak your handkerchief with cold water,” one student told his colleague. “No, don’t do that,” another said. “It could be ‘pepper teargas’.”
After police fired a few bullets into the sky, most of the students ran for dear lives. Two students, however, refused to move. A policeman then pointed his gun at them and threatened to shoot. But he didn’t. He later turned away and joined his colleague who were seen fleeing the scene.
The incident happened around 6:00 pm. at YabaTech back gate..
