Woman left with blackened face as headphones explode aboard flight
Dear God, we dealt with exploding phones last year. Please don’t let their headphones “colleagues” ruin 2017 for us! Amen!
A woman was left with sooth on her face and blisters on her hands after her headphones exploded midair.
The woman was dozing on a flight from Beijing to Melbourne, listening to music via the lithium-battery-powered headphones when they caught fire.
“I just grabbed my face which caused the headphones to go around my neck,” the unnamed woman told the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).
“I continued to feel burning so I grabbed them off and threw them on the floor,” she said.
“They were sparking and had small amounts of fire,” she said.
Members of the flight crew rushed to help and eventually put out the fire by pouring a bucket of water on the headphones, BBC reported.
By that time, the battery and the plastic cover had melted and stuck to the floor.
“For the remainder of the flight, passengers endured the smell of melted plastic, burnt electronics and burnt hair,” the ATSB said in its report.
The ATSB is warning people to be careful when using batteries and power packs on flights, and everywhere else.
Recall Samsung’s Note 7 was banned from airplanes and later yanked off the market because its lithium batteries won’t stop exploding.
