Woman kidnaps local herb seller’s 5-month-old baby in Lagos

Lagos police said Wednesday that an alleged kidnapper of a five-month-old baby had been arrested.

The suspect, named as Suliyat Badmus, was said to have kidnapped the infant from a hawker.

Lagos police boss, Edgal Imohimi said the 22-year old suspect had taken advantage of the absence of the baby’s mother who had gone to hawk local herb on September 26.

“On that day, around 11 am, the command received a complaint from one Shukurat Opeoluwadu, of Adeyiga Street, Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos, that one Suliyat Badmus, who was brought to live with her, stole her five-month-old baby who she left in the care of one Oluwakemi Amosu,” Imohimi said.

The commissioner added that the police went after Suliyat after she was reported.

“An investigation was instituted and eventually, the suspect, Suliyat Badmus, was arrested on October 7, 2018, in the Sabo area of Ikorodu, the baby was rescued from her and has been reunited with her parents. The suspect has confessed to the crime,” he said.

Suliyat would be charged to court after investigation.
