Wole Soyinka insists he’ll “tear Green Card” following Donald Trump’s emergence as United States President

Renowned Nigerian literature professor, Wole Soyinka is not backing down from his decision to shred his Green Card to pieces, following Donald Trump’s emergence as the next president of the United States.

Against popular expectations, Trump emerged winner of the 2016 elections, and Soyinka, who had promised to rip his U.S country pass if the Republican was elected, maintains he will go ahead with his decision.

“Come January 20, 2017; watch my WOLEXIT!” the human rights activist said in an interview with The INTERVIEW on Wednesday, making a snide reference to Britain’s historical exit from the European Union.

Soyinka, 82, however said the election result came as little surprise to him as the “possibility (of Trump’s victory) was looming nearer and nearer, getting scarier and scarier.

“As the election day approached, the specter became near palpable. I refused to switch on the television this morning until I had stiffened myself with a strong espresso. I felt disaster in my marrow.”

He maintained that his position against Trump’s governance is because “Trump’s wall is already under construction. Walls are built in the mind, and Trump has erected walls, not only across the mental landscape of America but across the global landscape.”
