Why we can’t investigate stealing of pants for ritual purposes – Police

The Nigeria Police has revealed that it cannot investigate stealing of pants for juju practices, with reasons being that it cannot establish any case without an evidence that proves that the practice leads to any harm.

Speaking in a television program on NTA, the police spokesperson, Frank Mba noted that it is against the law for anyone to engage in any kind of ritual killings, but that there’s no saying whether this is the case with the ‘pant-ritual’.

“Stealing of underwear for whatsoever reason is a recent phenomenon. Before now, we had cases of ritual killings but we can’t investigate things that are not empirically verifiable except when there is convergence of the act like cases of murder or an attempt or related crimes,” he said.

It became imperative for the police to be involved in the issue after it was revealed that a substantial amount of Nigerian youths have been going about, snatching pants from girls based on the belief that they will get rich by using a girl’s pant for ritual.

As funny as it sounds, the matter is not treated as a joke among a growing number of young ladies who are afraid of becoming victims of such practices.

Responding to the cause of such fetish beliefs among the youths, Mba said: “drug and substance abuses are strong conscience suppressors that influence our youth into these wicked acts of fetish and ritual killings for get-rich-quick.”

He assured that the police is doing their best to ensure that the menace is adequately  tackled.
