"We Won Edo Election, But Were Denied Victory" – Labour Party Chairman

Kelly Ogbalo, the Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State, has alleged that the party would have won the governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, if it had been conducted in a free and fair manner.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Ogbalo claimed that widespread irregularities marred the electoral process.

“Labour Party won the election but was not allowed to take possession,” Ogbalo said.

“The election was marred by serious irregularities, including open vote-buying. Unfortunately, security agencies failed to check this anomaly.”

In Saturday’s election, described as a three-horse race between Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, Ogbalo’s party came a distant third, managing to secure only 22,763 votes.

However, the State Chairman claimed the election was rigged through vote buying.

“When votes are bought and results are manipulated here and there, what do you expect?”

When asked if the Labour Party planned to challenge the outcome in court, Ogbalo stated that the party had yet to convene a state council meeting to make a formal decision on the matter.

The Labour Party Chairman’s allegations have added to the growing debate over the fairness of the Edo governorship election.
