WATCH: Kano governor, Ganduje caught on camera allegedly collecting $5m bribe from contractors
A video showing Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje allegedly collecting $5 million bribe from contractors in the state has been released by Daily Nigerian newspaper.
A journalist with the newspaper had alleged that multiple contractors confirmed that Ganduje collects about 15-25% of contracts awarded in the state.
The state government, at the time, rubbished the allegations as false, saying any video that would be released was “cloned” and labeled it an attempt to blackmail Ganduje.
One of the said contractors had reportedly teamed with the publication to reveal the governor’s alleged bribery collection activities, by using a hidden spy camera.
The report says Ganduje’s face was successfully captured in the undercover attempts which spanned about 10 months.
One of the contractors who exposed the governor is quoted as saying: “If my aim is to blackmail or extort the governor, I would have used the videos get over a billion settlement or force the governor to pay the hundreds of millions of naira the state is owing my company or force him to pay back all the money I paid him as kickbacks.
“We believe if public office holders are exposed, there will be sanity in the system even if I will not be the beneficiary in future,” he said.
The state government has not reacted to the video since its release.
