Passengers were left terrified on Tuesday as their Lagos-bound Aero Contractors plane nearly burst into flames.

According to a passenger, they had barely been 20minutes into the journey when the interior of the plane was filled with smoke.

Terrified passengers quickly began praying for their safety, before the plane landed safely.

The smoke was reportedly as a result of a fault which made one of the blades catch fire.

“20 minutes after take off, our aero contractor flight started smoking. For 35min we were chanting prayers, screaming, panicking,” a terrified passenger who detailed her experience on Twitter said.

“The smoke was so thick we couldn’t see, the blades were sparking.

“I’m still shaky, this experience is one i can’t forget easily. Over 30 mins we were chanting prayers as our flight was filled with smoke,” she added.

The passenger also pointed out that she had complained of the plane’s state before take off.

“God knows I said it that this plane was too old to be functioning in Nigeria before I boarded,” she said, adding that all passengers were safe.

“Fire service, emergency unit were already waiting at the runway (when we touched down).”

“Everyone is shouting sue sue but I’m just grateful to be alive and on ground. Funny thing is no apology or explanation was given to anyone,” she added.
