VIDEO: Protesters berate “enslaved” UNILAG students for “not joining the struggle”

“They’ve locked your destiny in A4 letter,” protesters mocked University of Lagos (UNILAG) students who failed to join a demonstration in the school on Monday.

“A4 letter” here mean the indemnity form UNILAG students were made to sign after they, in April 2016, protested against poor living condition on campus.

Monday’s protest was led by a group called “Save UNILAG Coalition”. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and Education Rights Concern (ERC) reportedly endorsed the protest.

Most of the protesters were not UNILAG students, we gathered.

Police blocked the main gate to prevent protesters from going into school premises.

Students, on whose behalf protesters were apparently agitating, were asked to queue before they could go in. A female student was hit with a gun while she tried to rush in to sit for a test.

Protesters say the students were too docile and expressed sorrow about their “future”.

Protesters demanded reinstatement for 11 UNILAG students rusticated for criticising school authorities.

UNILAG had warned students not to join the protest as “it could degenerate into violence”.
