University of Osun closes indefinitely following internal crisis

The management of University of Osun (UNIOSUN) has announced the closure of the school till further notice.

Ongoing crisis in the institution has been cited as the reason for the closure.

At least two students of the school, two students, Abiola Kazeem (Department of Physics Electronics) and Ibrahim Ajao, were reportedly assaulted by plain-clothed policemen on Saturday.

The students were said to be playing football in the morning, when the policemen fired at them with accusations they involved in internet fraud.

Kazeem and Ajao, shot in the waist and neck respectively, were both recovering at the hospital.

The school’s management had, on Monday, declared a week mid-semester break following the death of a female student identified as Feyisara, after a brief illness.

“Students of UNIOSUN are advised to immediately leave the campuses and proceed to their homes. The Authorities will inform them when to return to the University,” the school’s management announced on its website Tuesday morning.

UNIOSUN’s closure comes on the back of the announcement that Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (Lautech) is set to reopen after an 8-month strike.
