Two NAF aircraft crash during Independence Day rehearsals in Abuja

Two aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force crashed during rehearsals for the 58th Independence Day celebrations in Abuja on Friday.

There were no casualties recorded in the incident, according to NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola.

“I wish to confirm an air incident involving two NAF aircraft taking part in the 58th Independence Day celebrations. Thankfully, no lives were lost,” he said.

Nigeria will on Monday, October 1, celebrate the 58th year since it gained independence.

The extent of the damage to the aircraft is not known at the moment. The Air Force said sometime in 2017 that it spent over N25 billion to train pilots both locally and outside Nigeria in 2016.

Two Mi-35M attack helicopters were also acquired from Russia last year to fight terrorists and criminal gangs.
