Two lecturers sacked for embezzling TETFund grant at university in Ekiti
Federal University, Oye Ekiti has fired two lecturers for allegedly misappropriating the Tertiary Education Trust Fund grant entrusted to them.
The grant which was meant for research purposes is said to have been grossly misused by the duo; Dr Oluwagbemiga Adeyemi from Demography and Social Statistics Department and Dr Oniyide Akingbe from the Department of English and Literary Studies.
They were required to carry out a research and submit reports on their findings with the grant, but when they were not forthcoming with the result at the specified time, the university had set up a committee to investigate the utilization of the grant.
The committe, led by the Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Prof J.S Omotola was able to ascertain that the lecturers had not even commenced the research despite receiving the grant in full. It was also confirmed that the lead researcher, Dr C .A Abrifor lacked the expertise to carry out his role, given that he had only been at the university for barely six months.
Reviewing the report, the head of the disciplinary committee, Prof. O. Amu from the Department of Civil Engineering concluded that there’s an evidence of intent on the part of the lecturers to misappropriate the grant.
He added that “After a thorough review of the report of the investigation panel and interactions with parties involved, the committee concluded that a case of misconduct had been established against Abrifor, Akingbe and Adeyemi in accordance with section 14, 27 of the regulations governing the condition of senior staff of FUOYE.”
Although Dr C .A Abrifor was also involved in the research, he wasn’t dealt the same hands for being forthcoming in his reports whereas Akingbe and Adeyemi had taken three different grants in which they never submitted any reports.
It was in light of this misconduct that they were sacked.
