#JusticeForOchanya: Court remands lecturer who severally raped 13-year-old in Benue
Andrew Ogbuja, the Benue State Polytechnic lecturer accused of raping 13-year-old Elizabeth Ochanya and causing her death has been remanded in prison.
Ogbuja, 51, had allegedly been raping the deceased from the moment she was taken into his home following her mother’s death.
Ogbuja’s son, Victor, also allegedly partook in the serial raping of Ochanya, who developed complications as a result. She died on October 17 due to Vesico Vagina Fistula (VVF) complications at the at Federal Medical Center, Makurdi.
The Chief Magistrate Court ‘1’, Makurdi, heard on Thursday that Ogbuja and his son raped Ochanya for three years.
Chief Magistrate Isaac Ajim, however, declined to entertain the matter for lack of jurisdiction to hear the charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide preferred against Ogbuja.
Ajim ordered that the senior lecturer in the Department of Catering and Hotel Management be remanded at the Federal Medium Prison, Makurdi, until November 29, when the case will come up for mention.
Some concerned rights activists had staged a protest at the Ministry of Justice Thursday morning, calling for the prosecution of Ogbuja and his son.
