Two alleged fraudsters burst into tears in court over N12m oil scam
Two alleged fraudsters couldn’t hold back emotions as they faced the court on Monday over N12 million fraud.
The EFCC alleges that Mariam Eyitayo and Bethrand Johnson, through three companies, received N12 million from one Darison Samuel Jatau for the supply of two million barrels of crude oil in Accra, Ghana, in May 2015.
Jatau also expected to receive 120 million barrels of Bonny Light Crude Oil, at Bonny terminal, Rivers State, from the suspects.
The companies, through which the funds were allegedly siphoned, are named as Hamchid Nigeria Limited, Royal Reality and Investment Limited, and Rapid Technoslim and Investment Limited.
Both suspects face an 11-count charge, bordering on forgery, conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence.
Eyitayo and Johnson were moved to tears as they pleaded “not guilty” to the charges during their arraignment before Justice Peter Affen of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama.
They were remanded in prison and the case was adjourned for trial.
