TRAGIC: Wife sets self, husband of 5 weeks on fire “for talking to another woman” in Kano
A woman shocked residents of a Kano community on Monday midnight when she allegedly set herself and her husband of five weeks on fire.
The woman was said to have committed the tragic act over her husband’s alleged infidelity.
She had heard him talk to an unknown lady over the phone and got angry, reports say.
Eyewitnesses say the unnamed woman, in her fit of rage, lit a keg of petrol in their No 54 Middle Road residence in the Sabon Gari area of the city.
The explosion was said to have caused a huge fire that engulfed the house in which herself and the husband lived.
She died at the scene of the incident, while her husband died at a nearby hospital, reports say.
A witness, Mr. Emmanuel Okorie, said the couple were only married for five weeks.
Okorie identified the husband as Emeka, an Anambra native, who confided in him that the wife was imposed on him by his mother.
He added that the wife was about seven-months pregnant and had only joined her husband in Kano three weeks after their wedding.
Police in Kano say they have launched an investigation into the tragic incident.
