Tompolo denies Niger Delta militants bombing pipelines ‘on his behalf’

Ex-Militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has distanced himself from Niger Delta militants who claim to be fighting on his behalf by blowing up more pipelines in the region.

In a statement through the embattled former militant’s media consultant, Mr. Paul Bebenimibo on Sunday, Tompolo maintained he is not in support of any group of persons who launch attacks on oil installations because of his case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bebenimibo said Tompolo, who was declared wanted by the EFCC, has said repeatedly that he has no links whatsoever with the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta.

He said, “The attention of my client, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo has been drawn to an online publication by a faceless person or persons, that militants have vowed to attack more oil facilities over Tompolo if the Federal Government of Nigeria refused to drop the criminal charges against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

“High Chief Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) unequivocally dissociates himself from this threat as he did not send anyone to attack oil facilities in the Niger Delta region because of his case with the EFCC. Tompolo has consistently denied involvement in the resurgence of bombing of oil facilities in the Niger Delta region.”

Bebenimibo further said Tompolo will only pursue his case with EFCC through constitutional means, not violence.
