Three LASU senior lecturers land in trouble for alleged sexual harassment of female students

Three senior lecturers at the Lagos State University have been dismissed for allegedly harassing some females students in their departments.

Two of the lecturers, Dr. Sunkanmi Odubunmi and Dr. Isiaka Ogunwande, were Associate Professors in the Department of Economics and  Department of Chemistry respectively.

The third lecturer, Dr. Emmanuel Gbeleyi, was a lecturer of Anatomy, Lagos State University College of Medicine, Ikeja.

The institution’s management, according to Sunday SUN, arrived at the decision to relieve all three lecturers of their duties after a meeting at the Ojo campus last Thursday, October 4.

Two other lecturers escaped sack but received warnings after the Disciplinary Committee’s investigation into the allegations of sexual abuse against the five lecturers.

Reports say Dr. Odubunmi was arrested by LASU security operatives with the help of a nongovernmental organisation – three days to when he was to undergo a professorial interview.

He was alleged to have invited a female student to his office to rewrite an examination on a Saturday. He allegedly proceeded to lock the door and began to romance her.

Unknown to Dr. Odubunmi, however, the student was fitted with secret camera which was monitored by the non-governmental organisation and LASU security operatives in another office close to his. He was promptly arrested.

Similar allegation was levelled against Dr. Ogunwande, while Dr. Gbeleyi was alleged to have injected female students, sedated them in the laboratory before having sexual intercourse with them.
