Tension has gripped the international community after the terrorist group holding two health workers with the ICRC, Hauwa Mohammed Liman and Alice Loksha, threatened to kill them on Monday (today).

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has appealed to the Federal government and international community for a swift intervention following the threats.

Alice, Hauwa, and Saifura Khorsa were abducted by the Islamic State’s West African province group (ISWAP) seven months ago in Rann, Borno State.

Saifura was shot dead by the group in September, and it has now threatened to kill her colleagues today.

The same terrorist group holds Leah Sharibu.

“We urge you: spare and release these women. They are a midwife, a nurse, and a student,” the ICRC Director of Operations in Africa, Patricia Danzi, pleaded.

“Like all those abducted, they are not part of any fight. They are daughters and sisters, one is a mother – women with their futures ahead of them, children to raise, and families to return to,” she said.

Information minister Lai Mohammed, on Saturday, led a procession of delegates to visit Rebecca Sharibu, Leah’s mother, and promised to secure her release.
