Tanzania’s only billionaire kidnapped on way to gym house
Mohammed Dewji, a 44-year-old Tanzanian business tycoon regarded as Africa’s youngest billionaire, has been kidnapped.
Dewji, reports say, was kidnapped by two white men who arrived in two cars along with other accomplices, while going for his routine gym session at the Colosseum Hotel and Fitness Club in Oyster Bay, Dar es Salaam early Thursday morning.
The father of three was quickly driven away by his abductors.
Police commander in the country’s capital city, Lazaro Mambosasa, said a hunt for the abductors has already begun. He also called on the public for information that could lead to the abductors’ arrest.
Dewji, according to Forbes Magazine, is worth $1.5 billion (N540 billion). He is the only billionaire in Tanzania, a country of almost 60 million people.
