South Africa increases minimum wage as Nigerian govt dithers over N30,000
November 27, 2018
Just as the minimum wage conundrum in Nigeria continues, the country’s neighbour in the South of Africa has announced an increment in its workers’ wage.
The South African government has said workers in the country will from January 2019, begin to earn an equivalent of N126,000 as minimum wage.
Workers in the country currently earn no lesser than R3,700 (N97,495).
Nigeria currently pays its workers N18,000 as minimum wage, but the Buhari government continues to haggle with the Labour Union over a proposed N30,000 sum.
Many economic and financial experts have said the increment would be based on a lot of factors, particularly the country’s economic performance.
Nigeria is widely regarded as the ‘giant of Africa’.
