South Africa: Baby miraculously survives after being buried alive by mother
A baby boy has miraculously survived being buried alive by his South African mother, Daily Mail UK reports.
The baby was rescued after three days in a shallow grave where he was left to die.
Members of staff at the timber factory where the baby’s mother worked rescued him after they heard his cry.
The mother, 25, reportedly buried the infant in a makeshift grave, for fear that her parents would be upset about her having a second child.
“They searched and found him hidden underneath some timber, covered in sand,” a captain involved in the rescue said.
“On hearing the commotion, the mother confessed that the child was hers. Her explanation was that she was afraid of her parents.
This was her second child, the elder one being four years old, and she felt her parents would not approve of another baby.”
The baby was placed in an intensive care unit at a nearby hospital.
It was not clear if the baby’s mother would face any charges.
