Before and After: The sour, and really sweet, things Edwin Clarke said about Buhari, Jonathan

Change is here!

Come to think of it, even PR changed. It died and was buried on Tuesday.

So why shouldn’t Papa Edwin Clarke?

Edwin Clarke
Edwin Clarke, 86.

The old man is perhaps the most vibrant and outspoken supporter of former President Goodluck Jonathan…well, that was before President Muhammadu Buhari’s change virus invaded Clarke’s world, or so it now seems.

This was Mr Clarke in January 2015:

(Olusegun) Obasanjo is defending him (Buhari) because he wants the APC to win. How much corruption have you found in Jonathan that you are calling him corrupt? If a man (Buhari) you dissolved his committee (PTF) could not account for N25billion and you are now saying that man is not corrupt, then Buhari and Obasanjo are the same. They are in a marriage of convenience just to remove Jonathan.

About eight months ago, Clarke also had the following to say:

It’s clear that apart from clinging to sectional, ethnic and religious sentiments, the APC presidential candidate has no idea of running a democratic state. Mohammadu Buhari is a personality drenched in controversy because of his sordid dark past; Nigeria is ahead of his puerile and barren ideology, which remains stagnant. The APC political marriage is about accomplishing selfish, personal desire rather than the wellbeing of Nigerians.

Fast forward to October of the same year, that’s months after Buhari trounced Goodluck Jonathan at the polls, and you get the all new Clarke.

We are all to support him (Buhari), particularly in his determination to eradicate corruption in Nigeria. Jonathan didn’t have the political will-power to fight corruption. He’s too a gentleman. Drivers of yesterday are living in palatial buildings now under his government. In advanced countries, when you are living above your means, people query you. That’s not so in Nigeria. Former governors and lawmakers are now asking for immunity. Jonathan meant well for this country, but the will power to fight corruption was not there.

Jonathan’s loyalist, and “enemies” can’t believe it. Even journalists can’t believe it.

Twitter bears them witness.

Yeah...yeah...yeah... Old what?! Say it...you son of a Nigerian!
