Slain Major-General Alkali finally given proper burial in Abuja

Slain Major-General Idris Alkali has been given a proper burial after his remains was found in a well on Wednesday.

Alkali, an immediate past Chief of Administration of the Nigerian Army who had just retired after 35 years of service, had been ambushed and killed while travelling from Abuja to Bauchi state September 3.

He was buried at Gudu Cemetery in Abuja on Saturday and the final prayer rites were conducted by the Chief Imam of Abuja National Mosque, Dr Kabir Mohammad.

Mohammad, according to NAN, described Alkali as a “national hero”, and also hailed the Nigerian Army for successfully recovering his remains.

“Even though it took weeks to trace the whereabouts of late Alkali’s corpse, we thank Allah, we thank the Federal Government and we thank the Army for the dedication to find his body so that he can be buried according to Islamic rites,” he said, while also describing the killing as “unfortunate”.

Mohammad urged the government to effect positive changes in the fragile security situation in the country.

“Every Nigerian has the right to live or pass through any part of the country without being harassed or intimidated by anybody or group of people,” he said.
