Slain LASU activist, Omomeewa, was not shot at but strangled – Lawyer reveals
Yusuf Nurudeen Alowonle, fondly known as ‘Omomeewa’ has been laid to rest Friday, with the autopsy result revealed.
Omomeewa is the slain activist and accounting education graduate of the Lagos State University who was killed on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.
He was murdered in front of the school gate where he was reportedly shot alongside a school staff, Waheed Majekodunmi, also known as Majek
His lawyer and brother-in-law Yusuf Nurudeen told Neusroom that he was buried on Friday in a Whatsapp message.
He said, “The autopsy was on Friday. He was also buried on the same day.”
He however revealed that the cause of the late activist death was not a gunshot as widely reported.
“He didn’t die of a gunshot. He was strangulated. Something was used to hit him with an object that is not a knife. His 9th rib pierced his liver which resulted into too much blood in his stomach,” Nurudeen explained in the early hours of Saturday, promising to send our reporter a copy of the autopsy result.
The autopsy result later obtained by Neusroom showed that the late social rights campaigner suffered a type of internal bleeding called massive hemoperitoneum as the primary cause.
The secondary cause was the result of a combined sharp and blunt force which caused trauma to the abdomen.
Omomeewa was accused of admission racketeering in 2019 by the university and he faced panels on the matter which halted his school clearance by the time his studies was completed.
His wife, Aminat Widad has however maintained that he was loving and easy-going.
“Meewa is not a cultist. I know him very well, we have been friends from 100 level before we got married. I have not been myself since then till now. How could this happen to him? It is just like a dream, I can’t even believe myself,” the distraught mother of a four-month-old child said.
Meanwhile, his lawyer, Nurudeen vowed to get justice for Alowonle, accusing the school of negligence.
