Shi’ites, police clash as El-Zakzaky appears in court
June 21, 2018
A policeman was stoned to death Thursday morning in Kaduna, allegedly by Shi’ite Muslims who were protesting the detention of their embattled leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky..
El-Zakzaky was taken to the Kaduna High Court today for charges bordering on unlawful gathering, criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. His arraignment was said to have been stalled by the absence of the judge.
His followers allegedly attacked some police officers who were patrolling the metropolis ahead of the arraignment, killing one.
Unconfirmed reports say the police also shot dead two of the protesters.
El-Zakzaky is currently being detained after a December 2015 Shiites march in Zaria degenerated into bloodshed.
