Several policemen arrested after 15-yr-old girl was raped at gunpoint
Several police officers have been arrested in relation to the rape of a teenage girl, last Thursday, in Akwa Ibom.
The girl, also detained for two days, was only released after her uncle reportedly paid N10,000 for bail.
The Akwa Ibom State police boss, Mr Murtala Mani, said all the policemen on patrol from the station at the time of the incident had been arrested.
He however didn’t specify how many officers exactly have been detained.
They are being held in detention at the state police headquarters in the state.
And there is one more allegation against the same group of policemen.
An artisan has accused them of brutalising him on the same Thursday.
Ndifreke Ibuotenang said the policemen beat him to a pulp on his way back from a palm wine drinking spot.
Asides that his two eyes were seriously affected from the beating, he also had to pay N10,000 to secure his release.
The state police boss said investigation into the two cases had commenced.
“We have already started investigation into the matter. We have detained all the policemen involved,” he said.
“I interviewed the victims close to three hours on Monday. If the culprits are found wanting, they would be dismissed and prosecuted.”.
