Scorned lover bathes girlfriend with acid over family’s marriage refusal

One Musa Faisal has confessed to pouring acid on his 26-year-old girlfriend, Fatima Usman.

Usman is a final year Nursing student of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

Newsroom had reported that Usman was on March 16, bathed with corrosive fluid by suspected tricycle operators in the state.

In a new development, the Borno State Police Command on Thursday, confirmed the arrest of Faisal, who they say has confessed to the crime.

The State Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu briefed newsmen about Faisal’s arrest in Maiduguri.

Chukwu disclosed that men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS in Kano apprehended Faisal and one Muhammad Babangida.

Contrary to earlier reports that the victim was attacked by tricycle operators, the duo were said to have conspired together to attack the final year student.

Chukwu revealed to newsmen that Faisal and the victim dated for over four years and trouble started when Usman’s parents rejected Faisal’s marriage proposal.

The police boss said, “our findings indicated that the girl and the suspect had been meeting in secret for a long period of time.

“On the day of the attack, she arranged to meet the suspect at a hotel in Galadima area of Maiduguri and while they were inside a room, his accomplice, Muhammad Babangida joined them.

“Babangida was the one who poured acid on Usman and in the process, some of the liquid spilled over to Faisal.

“It is also established that the suspect vowed to deal with the girl since her family resented their union.”
