Sanwo-Olu says churches, mosques, clubs, cinemas will remain closed despite relaxation of lockdown
When the one-month-long lockdown in Lagos is finally eased on Monday May 4, 2020, some activities in the state that have been shut down before the Federal Government locked down the state on Monday March 30, will remain closed.
Some of the activities include – religious, entertainment, fitness and gaming centres which attract a large gathering of people whenever they are in full operation.
“Entertainment centres, cinemas, arcades, bars, casinos, day clubs, nightclubs, beaches, pools, gyms, salons, barber shops, spas, and public parks both private and public in all parts of the state will remain closed for the next two weeks,” Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said in his state broadcast on Wednesday.
The governor further added that all places of worship both formal and informal will remain closed for any form of congregational services.
“Our Muslim brothers and sisters taking part in Ramadan must observe all prayers and meals within their homes as no gatherings are allowed.”
Lagos government banned large gatherings in the state on Thursday March 19, 2020 when there were 12 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria. As at Thursday April 30, four days to May 4 when the lockdown will be eased, the number has jumped to 1728 cases with 307 discharged and 51 deaths.
