Residents of Eyita, Ojokota in Ikorodu under severe attack from hoodlums

Residents of Eyita, Ojokoro and parts of Ori-okuta in the Ikorodu area of Lagos have come under severe attacks from hoodlums due to the bad state of the road leading into the community from the Ile-Epo Oba axis of the expressway linking Sagamu, a town in Ogun State.

The road, which had been abandoned by successive administrations in Lagos State over the years despite passionate appeals from residents of the area for it to be done, has created an opportunity for hoodlums, who waylay individuals returning home from work or their places of business at night to attack and dispossess them of valuables.

A victim of such an attack, Romoke Idowu, while recounting her near-death experience at the hands of two young men, who slapped and took away her handbag containing cash and a smartphone.

She said, “Two weeks ago while I was returning from work at about 8:30pm, I had to trek all the way from Ile-Epo Oba to Eyita Junction because no commercial motorcycle was willing to pass through that bad road.

“By the time I got to that junction, suddenly, two guys approached me. I never knew they were coming for me. Before I knew what was happening, they slapped me and snatched my bag from me.
I had my phone and N12, 000 in that bag. I pass through Agric bus-stop at night to get to my house because of the insecurity on that road,” she said.
