Rashidi Yekini’s “poor” mother wins N2 million

The mother of Rashidi Yekini, the late Nigerian football legend, was a proud winner of N2million on a TV show recently.

Alhaja Sikirat Yekini was assisted by acting veterans, Dejumo Lewis and Binta Ayo Mogaji-Oduleye, during the popular TV quiz game show Who wants to be a Millionaire.

Yekini, a lethal striker for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, died May 4, 2012 aged 48.

Since his death, the mother has reportedly been living in penury as the Nigerian sports authorities allegedly abandoned the family.

Rashidi Yekini was a renowned striker for the Super Eagles.

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki had earlier renovated the residence of Alhaja Sikirat Yekini and upgraded her shop to a mini mart.

He hired a maid and a nurse to take care of the octogenarian and also donated a tricycle to Yekini’s younger brother, Hakeem.
