Protesters demand justice for 13-year-old raped to death by aunt’s husband, son in Benue
A group of protesters, on Thursday, gathered at the Ministry of Justice to demand justice for the 13-year-old girl allegedly raped to death by a lecturer and his son in Benue.
Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje died days ago from complications she allegedly suffered from several forceful penetrations by Andrew Ogbuja, a staff at Benue State Polytechnic and her aunt’s husband.
Andrew’s son, Victor, a final-year student at the Federal University of Agriculture, also allegedly took advantage of the little girl who had to stay with the family after she lost her mother.
Ochanya had endured both father and son’s alleged acts since she was eight, until she developed vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), a condition in which she continuously dripped urine, following damage to her bladder.
The protesters who were clad in black, demanded that justice be served, as they blocked the main gate of the ministry and demanded to speak with the minister of justice and attorney-general of federation, Abubakar Malami.
They were, however, addressed by the director of litigation, Emmanuel Omonoho, who said Malami was away on assignment. Omonoho assured the protesters that the ministry would look into the case.
“I assure you on behalf of attorney-general that once the report gets to the ministry of justice the matter must be prosecuted to the logical conclusion,” he said.
