The Presidential Election Tribunal has set Wednesday, September 6, 2023, to rule on the petitions before it filed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and President Bola Tinubu.

“The Court of Appeal wishes to inform the General Public that judgment in the following petitions before the Presidential Election Petition Court will be delivered on Wednesday, 6th September 2023,” a statement signed by Umar M. Bangari, Esq., Appeal Court Chief Registrar, reads.

It’s been 192 days since the February 25, 2023, presidential election and 98 days since Bola Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria’s 16th President. However, the contest over who will govern the affairs of Africa’s largest economy rages on as the two major presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, continue to assert that the election was marred by irregularities, malpractice, and manipulation of election results.

Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, among other things, are seeking the nullification of the election, citing that Tinubu failed to secure 25% of the total votes cast in Abuja, the nation’s capital, from where he now governs.

Additionally, the court has resolved that the judgment on Wednesday will be televised live.

“In an effort to promote transparency and openness, these judgments will be broadcast live by interested television stations for the public to follow,” the statement said.
