Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has unveiled 30 hybrid-powered Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The buses were launched on Monday, with the President hailing the exploitation of natural gas for the good of the country’s economy.

The President noted that the unveiling marked a huge shift in the use of energy and the mode of public transportation in the country.

“Utilising natural gas to power Nigeria’s transportation industry is the next way to go,” Tinubu said.

Furthermore, the President, in a statement released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelelae, pointed out that 80% of Nigeria’s petrol demand is attributed to commercial vehicles.

He raised optimism of bucking that trend by diversifying into natural gas, thereby saving the government trillions of Naira monthly.

“The solution is here, we have it, and we will work on it,” Tinubu noted in the statement.

Each of the CNG buses with a capacity of 100 people was designed and manufactured by Innoson Motors, Nigeria’s automobile company headquartered in Anambra State.

The buses were donated by the Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria at the State House in Abuja.
