Port Harcourt: sacked driver connives with gang members to kidnap boss

An ex-driver has been kidnapped by the police for masterminding the kidnap of his ex-boss, his boss before his death is the Chief Executive Officer of Menakeb Limited, a waste management service provider, in Rivers State.

The suspect, 26-year-old Silva Tekena, reportedly connived with his gang members to kidnap his former boss, Chief Nnemi Adoki, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

 The other suspects were identified as Justice Timothy, 22, the gang leader; Akpos Livinus, 33; Daniel Allen, 27; Kelvin Alpheus, 30 and David Abak, 29.

 

They were arrested on Monday by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team in Rivers State.

 According to reports, the 61-year-old Adoki drove out of his office on Agbe Road on December 15, 2017, when the kidnappers abducted him at gunpoint and whisked him away.

Two motorists, one of whom was identified as Abdullahi Maikano, reportedly witnessed the kidnapping and gave the gunmen a chase.

They reportedly opened fire on the motorists and shot Maikano dead in the process.

It was gathered that the gunmen escaped through the waterways and abandoned their operational vehicle, while the police were alerted to the incident.

Adoki was reportedly held in creeks in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state for 21 days and was released after N9m ransom was paid.

 

Following the killing of Maikano and kidnapping of Chief Nemi Adoki, and his eventual release on January 4, 2018 after payment of N9m ransom, the IG IRT operatives arrested six members of the gang from different locations in Rivers and Bayelsa states.
