Police reacts to viral video of brutal shooting of young man in Benin, promises justice

The Nigeria Police Force has reacted to the viral video of a young man who was shot by operatives in Benin, Edo State, on Tuesday.

Some unidentified operatives who were allegedly raiding the area for criminals had shot an unarmed young man point blank as he made an attempt to flee, presumably causing his death.

Authorities said Tuesday evening that new Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu has ordered investigation into the very unfortunate incident.

There are unconfirmed indications that the shooting was carried out by DSS operatives.

A witness confirmed to Neusroom that he couldn’t identify the division the operatives belonged to nor where the young man’s body was taken afterwards.

The Police said in a statement that “Force PRO ACP Frank Mba is personally interested in finding the exact details of what happened here to enable the Force take appropriate actions.

“The Police is therefore appealing to anyone who might have any useful information relating to the incident to reach us through any confidential means.

“We are committed to ensure justice is done.

“The IGP has ordered full blown investigation into the incident,” the Force added.
