Police, INEC assure safety of election observers as Bill Clinton cancels planned visit to Nigeria

Some political leaders in Nigeria have suggested a violent stance on external influence on the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and Nigeria Police have assured delegates of election observer groups that their safety will be guaranteed in the upcoming election.

The assurance is coming after rhetorics from some political leaders in Nigeria have suggested a violent stance on external influence on the election.

Chief among these threats was the one from the governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir El-Rufai who vowed to send anybody that interferes in the election home in body bags.

Based on these developments, the former president of the United States who intended to attend the signing of the National Peace Accord between Atiku and Buhari pulled out of the arrangement.

The U.S Embassy in Nigeria has issued a statement that it does not support any political party in the country.
