PHOTOS: Obasanjo visits graveyard of victims of herdsmen killings, tasks leaders to find lasting solution

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday (today) visited the graveyard of the victims of herdsmen killings in Benue state.

Obasanjo was received at the airport by the state governor Samuel Ortom.

At least 73 locals were killed in communities of Guma and Logo LGA of the State on New Year day.

Obasanjo who also laid a wreath in honour of the 73 victims of the herdsmen attacks in Makurdi, described the killings as “senseless” and urged the federal government to “find what is the root cause of this and put a stop to it.”

“We cannot talk of a free country, a secured country, a country where we will want development to take place, a country where we will want to invite investors and we are suffering this type of senselessness. I do hope that there will be an end to this,” he said.

Another 24 persons were killed in a fresh attack between herdsmen and farmers in the state last Monday. Their burial has been put on hold until after President Buhari’s visit.

Buhari is expected to visit the state in the coming days.
